Northern Forest Archipelago Standard Time (NFAST) is .
NFAST is a base ten system of time measurement with 10,000 units of time during each day. The NFAST day starts with 0 at midnight, and counts up to 9999 at one tic before midnight the next night. To break it down for the newbie...
- 2500 coincides with morning/breakfast time
- 5000 coincides with mid-day/lunch time, since the day is half over
- 7500 coincides with evening/dinner time in the NFA
The NFA has been using the NFAST system in it's capital city of Backwoods since the inauguration of the NFA Meridian (on the Eastern Coast of the United States) at the vernal equinox of 2002. The NFAST concept is similar to Swatch Internet time, with some key improvements including a more logical array of time measurement increments and a meridian not based in Biel, Switzerland (we did not want our time system based out of another country, thousands of miles away).
- The number in the "1's" place represents the tics...a tic is about the amount of time it takes to drink a glass of water (250 ml), without rushing.
- The number in the "10's" place represents the tocs...a toc is about the amount of time it takes a non-disabled adult to walk 100 meters of trail in Backwoods, without rushing.
- The number in the "100's" place represents the tacs...a tac is about the amount of time it takes to split enough firewood for a winter night, and start your fire, without rushing.
- The number in the "1000's" place represents the tucs...a tuc is about the amount of time it takes to make and eat and clean up a meal with friends, without rushing.
